the story of launcelot and elaine
For many years, king Arthur and the Saxons fought at different places all over the land. After the battle of Mt. Badon there was a long period of peace. At the beginning there many people needed Arthur's help due to crime, but as time went on, the need for him diminished. Knights were needed to be used less and less, themselves growing in skill but, there was no way for them to utilize it. Arthur had been waiting a long time for launcelot to return, because he was one of the most outstanding knights, no one else could compare. However Launcelot did have his faults and fell in love with Queen Guinevere. For many years, Lancelot served the royal family with Arthur feeling no jealously between their relationship. But, as Arthur went on quests to faraway lands, Launcelot and Guinevere spent more time together and started to grow closer without Arthur's knowledge. This allowed a pathway for evil to crawl itself into Launcelot.
The hermit comes to the feast of Easter telling Arthur about who will take the seat next to Lancelot; the person who sits there isn't born yet and he will complete the holy grail quest. He mentions another quest of saving a lady who is the victim of wicked enchantments on the Dolorous Tower. Only the best knight amongst the table could win her freedom, and that was Launcelot. He traveled with hermit to a city upon a dark hillside, with a great black tower on top. Inside contained the fairest lady of the land who was placed in there by queen Morgana la fey out of jealousy. Lancelot broke through all obstacles and found Elaine in a bath of scalding hot water. After Launcelot retrieving Elaine, Lancelot enters the great hall and gets asked by King Pelles to heal his arm, suddenly three women all dressed in white enter. The first held a spear, the second held a golden platter covered with cloth, and the third held a golden covered cup filled with a light. Those were the most precious items in the world, being guarded by King Pelles, the descendant of Joseph of Arimathea.
King Pelles introduces his daughter, Elaine to Lancelot. From the moment Elaine saw Launcelot, she loved him. However, he never loved her back even with all of her efforts to win over his affection, for his heart belonged to Queen Guinevere. Elaine confides in father about her worries of Lancelot. He assures her that Lancelot will be her husband, and they will have a son named Galahad who would save the waste lands. Elaine turned to enchantments to make Lancelot love her, a damsel named Brysen disguises Elaine as Guinevere and has a man present Lancelot a ring that Guinevere always wore to lure him to a castle. When he arrived he saw Guinevere and forgot about his honor and laid with her that night. The next day he woke to find Elaine next to him and jumped out of a window into a bed of roses for she was not the woman he loved.
For the longest time he was lost in the woods, out of his mind, everyone in Camelot was wondering about his whereabouts. His cousin went to the waste lands in search of Lancelot, and instead was greeted by Elaine and a baby she claimed to be Lancelot's. Elaine stays at the Castle of Case, just in case Lancelot comes back. One day Galahad finds a goodly man sleeping by their well, it was Lancelot. The holy grail appears as Lancelot lays in the room, the light shines so bright the others kneel and cover their eyes. Once they open them they find Lancelot kneeling as well and the grail gone. He falls asleep again but, wakes to find Elaine hovering over him, he yells, surprised and she explains the whole scenario. After healing he heads back to Camelot because after all, his heart still belonged to Guinevere. Shortly after, Elaine dies of a broken heart and Galahad is sent to be taken care of by holy monks and nuns. Elaine’s dying wish was to drift downstream to Camelot with a letter in her hands stating the cause of her death was her love for Lancelot that was not returned. Lancelot explains himself saying that he could not give her love for he loved someone else and Arthur agreed saying that “love comes as a gift, divine and must be treated with all honor and reverence: he is no true knight who would do aught to bring a stain upon it”
